Interim Review - December 2006
In addition to our Annual Report on Health, Safety, Security and Environment, we carried out an interim review after the first six months of 2006/7.
The NDA's six-monthly report of safety and environmental performance is presented in two parts:
- Part 1 presents a review of NDA's own internal safety performance.
- Part 2 of the report discusses the safety and environmental performance of the NDA-owned nuclear sites.
From the beginning of 2006/7 we have asked all sites to report on their safety and environmental performance using a common set of metrics.
NDA's High Level Objective Number 1 for the year is to encourage and facilitate improvement as measured against these metrics.
Highlights include:
- The report presents an interim analysis of whether the sites' safety and environmental performance is improving over the first six months of 2006/7 when measured against these metrics.
- There are indications that there are improvements in the fields of nuclear safety, industrial safety and environmental protection.
- In the fields of radiological protection, health and regulatory compliance it is not yet possible to state whether there is any discernible trend and so we will continue to monitor the metrics in these fields.
