Chapelcross power station is located near Dumfries in southwest Scotland and has an area of 96 hectares covered by the nuclear site licence.
It was the first nuclear power station in Scotland. Electricity generation started in 1959 and ceased in June 2004. The area around the site is environmentally sensitive.
