NDA welcomes announcement regarding a Nuclear National Skills Academy

31 October 2006

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) has today welcomed the announcement by Education and Skills Secretary, Alan Johnson that the nuclear industry's bid for a Nuclear National Skills Academy has been accepted.

The news is a significant step towards ensuring the UK has a sufficiently skilled workforce to carry out the nuclear decommissioning mission. The need for such status was recognised in our Strategy, published earlier in the year, and forms part of a wide ranging skill development programme from school leavers through business support to research and development.

Along with a number of partners we will develop the Nuclear National Skills Academy on a hub and spoke model, with local delivery through local colleges and training organisations. Achieving national status gives us the dual benefit of the flexibility of local delivery but with national co-ordination.
